Haikus, Acrostic and Free Poetry Oh My

Acerca del evento

During this 3-week poetry series, learn how to write haikus, acrostic and free poetry using ekphrasis.Ā

Ekphrasis is the use of detailed description of a work of visual art as a literary device. Ā In this series we will use paintings and photographs as inspiration for our poems.Ā

Haikus are Japanese poems of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world. Ā

Acrostic poetry is a type of poetry where the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. The most common and simple form of an acrostic poem is where the first letters of each line spell out the word or phrase.Ā

Free verse poetry is just that: a literary device that can be defined as poetry that is free from limitations of regular meter or rhythm and does not rhyme with fixed forms. Such poems are without rhythm and rhyme schemes, do not follow regular rhyme scheme rules, yet still provide artistic expression.
