Breaking News... This is your life

You are invited to step into the idea and explore creative expression and the ability to do what makes you happy. To explore what lights you up and to be able to take the challenges and hard times of life and learn and grow from them. It is an ability that everyone can learn, it is a choice.

Close your eyes and I want to tell you a story…..

Once upon a time there was a young woman named Snow White. She was the kind hearted princess who can charm everyone except her jealous stepmother, the Queen. Magic mirror proclaimed her the fairest of them all. Thanks magic mirror but now Snow White had to take off into the forest because of her very controlling and evil stepmom. Good news is  she befriends the seven dwarfs, Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful Sleepy and Dopey. Da da da da.. The Queen then tricks Snow White into eating the poison apple, no don’t do it I can hear you saying. Snow White falls into a deep sleep. Only the magic of true love’s kiss can awaken her. So many ways to take all of this. Let’s explore.

Fun fact: The story behind the story of Snow white, written by the Grimm Brothers, may have been inspired by the countess Margaretha von Waldeck and her alleged lover, Philip II of Spain. The countess, who died in 1554, was famed for her beauty.Nov 20, 2021

At its core this is about good, evil and love. The moral being that vanity will not take you far but in the long run kindness will. I realize this is a deep conversation and I can see you rolling your eyes. Really does kindness win, how about _________________. (fill in the blank). Snow white was pure love and the queen was not and she couldn't take it.

Let’s do a little breakdown and see if you recognize these characters in Your life story. We are multifaceted beings. Taking the time to become more self aware allows you to unclog potential blockages to your creative expression and outlets.

The Evil Queen/King: This is the ego, the one that is trying to protect you and is holding onto all of the things to keep you safe. “Don’t go out and try that, you were told you were not good at that.” “You will get hurt, you will not have insurance and be able to support your family,” “You messed up once and you will again.” This is the voice that banishes your imagination and expression because it will keep the looks up and wants to be the best looking.

Doc: He is bossy and absent minded. He gets tongue tied and loses his train of thought, a little bit of the absent minded professor. Most follow his lead except for Grumpy.

Grumpy: He is grouchy, overbearing and has a short fuse BUT deep down he possesses a warm heart. He puts up his armor and does not let many into his inner circle. Grumpy led everyone to rescue Snow White. When he feels a connection his kindness shows through and he reveals himself. When he shows too much he reverts back to his protection.

Bashful: He is shy and blushes often. He likes to hide behind his beard when feeling embarrassed. He does not like to be the center of attention BUT does not like to disappoint Snow White because he likes her.

Sleepy: Do not let him trick you into thinking that he does not get things done. He is always looking for a chance to rest and shows a relaxed, laid back personality.

Happy: Fun fact he was the only one to introduce himself to Snow White when they first met. He is optimistic and extroverted. He makes the best out of any situation.

Sneezy: He has these uncontrollable bouts of sneezing and the others try to help him to control it. He is very friendly but has this obstacle and it can keep him small.

Dopey:. He never speaks in the movie. He is one of the most loved dwarfs. He is silly and likes to play around. He is very recognizable with what he wears, his big hat and lime green sweater. He stands out without having to say much.

So we have the evil king/queen which is the ego, the many sides to each of us… Which one or ones can you really relate to. The beauty of Snow White is that she is pure LOVE. She encompasses all these traits and she gets all of the dwarfs for who they are, truly. The traits of the characters do not make them bad, they make them unique.

To allow more joy to stream in and feel more expressive, feel more balanced, be more self aware, feel stronger connections, give yourself permission to make mistakes, problem solve issues as life happens, allow for more expansion into your thinking…

Here are a few strategies to dealing with these characters in your life:

  • Bossy and leading are two different things and vibes. We do not respond to being bossed around but want to be heard.

  • Grouchy, everyone feels it, that is real. Take a break, go be alone and don’t take it out on others. Don’t be afraid of letting your guard down and be exposed to show how you feel, it opens up the energy channels in your mind and body.

  • You can be bashful but still step into the spotlight. This is being an introvert which means that you can put energy out to be seen but you need to take time to recover and be quiet and do for you. You can hide to restore but do not dim you. Even if you turn many shades of red, I have lots of experience with that, don’t let it limit your dreams.

  • Take time to rest and recover. Keeping yourself in more of a relaxed state allows you to flow with life instead of pushing against it.

  • Being happy is not about being loud and shouting to everyone, “I am sooo happy!”  It is being friendly, smiling, being content with life even when it is not so good and rolling with it. It is making the best of situations.

  • Things can feel out of our control. When this happens we often want to hide. Reach out and find your community to help you stay in check and they get you, they have your back and want you to grow.

  • You do not have to talk so much. Listen and recognize that how you dress and show up in the world reflects who you are and that can do the talking for you at times.

Lastly, do you need the kiss to save you?

In modern times there are many different versions of this but my two cents is…

Kiss yourself because only you can save you.

Creatively yours,

Hollis
